Saint Oswald, King and martyr, born c. 605, died 5 August 642. Helped establish Christianity as the religion of Britain. He invited monks from Iona to evangelise his kingdom which extended from the Forth to the Humber; he gave Lindisfarne (Holy Island) to St. Aidan for his community.
Feast day 3rd August (Hexham and Newcastle RC Diocese).
5th August Church of England.
