John Bosco (or Don Bosco),1815 - 31st January 1888. Priest and Founder
of the Salesian Society dedicated to St. Francis de Sales.
Don Bosco's vision was to help the young, the abandoned and the poor in
practical ways and help them to come to know Jesus spiritually, he
opened an Oratory school for impoverished boys in Turin which began the
work of the Salesian Society.
Don Bosco worked with St.
Mary Mazzarello to found the Salesian sisters (Daughters of Mary, Help
of Christians). Today there are thousands of religious sisters and Salesian brothers and priests working throughout the world continuing the vision of Don Bosco.
