At the Easter Vigil the newly blessed Easter fire is a symbol of Christ,
gloriously rising from the dead.
From it we have lit the Paschal candle and marched behind our Pillar of
fire, Jesus, the risen Lord, through the darkness of the night to the blazing
light of the Promised Land, each carrying the flame in our hands.
The story of the crossing of the Red Sea is our life's journey in the
footsteps of Christ.
The waters of the Red Sea which saved the Israelites from their persecutors,
are the waters of our baptism which rescue us from the powers of darkness.
Easter is the night of the renewal of our baptismal promises.
