Filled with the fire of love - Banner
Artwork by Sr Mary Stephen CRSS
'And there appeared to them tongues as of fire, they were all
filled with the Holy Spirit.' (Acts 2:3&4)
"I am who I am." (Exodus 3:14)
God frequently appeared to humankind in the form of fire. On the hillside, in
visions, at Pentecost.
I am who I am. God is Fire and Love. In the fiery
energy of the burning bush God calls. From this blaze of flames, this burning
fire. 'a stream of fire poured out from his presence.' (Dan 7:10)
This is what the picture is all about - that stream of love flowing out from
God to all the earth.
In Ezekiel's vision of God we find another description of God as fire, ending
"I saw what looked like fire, giving a brilliant light all around."
(Ezek 1:27)
And then again at Pentecost, the coming of the Holy Spirit, the Spirit that is
the Love of God, is shown in tongues of fire.
