In the sacrament of Healing we use the symbol of oil with its
soothing and healing properties, to convey the essence of what is happening.
Through the anointing and laying on of hands, together with prayer, God's
healing energy flows through us and into us. It is for us to be open to this
presence and, acting as his instruments, to become clear channels of this
energy.
Healing comes in many forms and a cure is only one
answer to our prayer. What healing we receive is entirely in God's hands. We
may receive inner healing of some kind. Many physical symptoms are routed in
our inner wounds and these are healed so the physical symptoms will gradually
fade. At other times the healing will go directly to the physical problem. Then
there is the healing that leaves us with our pain, but brings us the inner
strength to accept and be at peace with it, and through it be drawn further
into the mystery of love, which is God.
All through our lives God is transforming us into
the wonder he envisions each of us will be when we are "filled with the
utter fullness of God...whose power, working in us, can do infinitely more than
we can ask or imagine..."(Ephesians 3:20).

This banner draws its symbolism from the Book of Revelation
(ch.21-22): '...the New Heaven and the New Earth, opened up for us by Jesus.'
There is the river of life, flowing from the throne of God and of the
Lamb, image of the Spirit given to us in Baptism, the river through which we
have passed with Jesus into the Promised Land. Trees of life grow on either
side, whose leaves are the health of the nations, for all the world. His life
is our life, here and now, and eternally.
(Resurrection accounts: Matthew 28:1-15; Mark 16:1-8; Luke 24:1-12;
John 20:1-10).
