Dame Werburg Welch (1894-1990), a Benedictine nun of Stanbrook Abbey, produced high quality wood engravings, low relief wood carving, paintings and vestments throughout her monastic life. She also undertook numerous commissions for Stations of the Cross and hanging crucifixes for churches. Working exclusively on scriptural themes, her originality of design conveys her deep spirituality rooted in liturgical and personal prayer.
