The Walled Garden - Revisited
Author: John Bird
A recollection of personal spiritual inspirations, meditations and loving consolations.
I like to think that my own personal love of travel and a desire or knowledge and wisdom comes in part from my maternal grandfather, who was Greek, but who, sadly, I never had the joy of meeting.
It is well known that the Greeks in the ancient world, and to some extent in the post-classical period, were intrepid wanderers drawn in a quest to find out 'new things', and it is said that modern Athenians themselves never rest either. Like children they are always young in their souls.
The ancient Greeks voyaged mostly for trade and commerce and perhaps in some cases travelled simply for the sake of travel, but above all they were characteristically seekers of truth, men and women with inquiring minds searching for the sublime truth of God in His creation.
I too am on a long journey, not alone, because I have the consolation of being accompanied by the angels of knowledge and wisdom to lead me to the same truth.
